  • Mobilize local groups in Mushin and Ajegunle communities for an improved participation in the 2007 electoral process

Stimulating and inculcating democratic principles and procedures among Grassroots Groups in Mushin and Ajegunle for Effective Constituency Development. Funded by Westminster Foundation for Democracy London.

Project Goal: To promote a system of good governance, transparency and accountability of the elected officers through increased awareness of human and civic rights, enhanced inclusive participation in decision-making processes and policymaking among local/vulnerable groups at grassroots levels in Mushin and Ajegunle communities.

Objectives Achieved

1. Trained 50 representatives of youth associations through workshops on advocacy and lobby skills, democratic principles and procedures in the third week of the project.

2. Sensitised 71,000youths and women in Mushin and Ajegunle communities through street corner workshops and dissemination of I.E.C material on basic knowledge of democracy and good governance in motor parks, market places, schools, and mass commuter buses from the sixth week of the project.

3. To identify key constituency issues that the community needs addressed by the elected representative. The participants to the pre-forum meeting will include representatives of the Community development association, market women, Local education division, community leader, youth association, Artisans, Religious leaders, Health workers, labour union and other civil society organization located in the project communities.

4. Convened two constituency forums between elected representatives, the community leaders, youths, women and community development associations to enhance inclusive participation in policymaking and evaluation of activities of elected representatives in the second week of the third month of project.

Trained youths in Mushin were able to engage their elected representative at the state level to revert funds for borehole not needed by the community for culvert most needed by the community.
