Human Support Services

(HSS) is registered in Nigeria by the Corporate Affairs Commission as a Non-governmental Social Enterprise. Established on the 9 th of September 1997, the priorities of the organization have continued to focus on addressing the development needs and Challenges of grassroots communities. In recent time, HSS has become one of the leading civil society organizations contributing to the emergence of individuals and groups with the capacity to engage their leaders, State and Local Government Institutions and programs thus facilitating equitable participation in development.

With over a decade of experience in this sector, HSS has demonstrated expertise working at community levels through three thematic thrust; Health, Governance andEntrepreneurial Development. The organization’s secretariat is under the leadership of an Executive/Project Director with the supervision of an eight-member Board of Trustees. HSS maintains a network of over one hundred and sixty volunteers to complement the activities of the organization. The primary beneficiaries of HSS activities are children, youths and women.

We believe that long lasting impact and changes in ailing social systems are functions of effective participation of beneficiaries in the Change process; particularly in the planning, implementation and evaluation phases of the intervention.

Thematic Areas


  • Facilitation of capacity development and strengthening for health systems strengthening
  • Promotion of Health information and counseling for the adoption of preventive health practices among the youths, vulnerable groups particularly economically disadvantaged females and their community.
  • Training of youths and vulnerable groups particularly economically disadvantaged females on life skills, to develop their individual and collective sense of responsibility, usefulness, self- confidence, autonomy, cooperation, initiative and decision making capacity.

Democracy & Governance

  • Promotion of the Rights of Community dwellers to participate active in the decision making process of the government and other stakeholders.
  • Educating youths on their civil rights and responsibilities.

Entrepreneurial Development

  • Empower Community dweller with entrepreneurial skills and Micro finance to increase their opportunities for self reliance.
  • Advocating for policies to ameliorate the socio-economic challenges of these groups.
